The leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, are against the restructuring of Nigeria.

This comes as the southern governors and lawmakers made a call for the restructuring of the country, pitching the need for true federalism, amidst the spate of insecurity in the country.

Malami who is also the Minister of Justice condemned the southern governors’ decision to ban open grazing in their respective states despite the alarming cases of clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in their host communities.

In the same vein, Lawan equally condemned the decision to ban open grazing in the south as well as the call for restructuring.

Lawan talking to Newsmen said, “I believe that as leaders, especially those of us who are elected into office should not be at the forefront of calling for this kind of thing. Because, even if you are a governor, you are supposed to be working hard in your state to ensure that this restructuring you are calling for at the federal level, you have done it in your state as well.”

Speaking on Monday, Kanu advised the Southern region to walk away from the entity known as Nigeria nothing that the two northerners (Lawan and Malami) are not in support of their call for restructuring,

“Groups in the South have been demanding RESTRUCTURING. Now, Southern Govs & Southern caucus in NASS have joined in. That’s half of Nigeria. But 2 men – the Senate President & AGF Malami are saying the North won’t entertain it.

“They have no sea but they are in charge of all sea ports in the South. They have no single drop of oil but own all oil wells in the South & are in charge of NNPC. They score lowest in every exam yet they are Chief Justices, AGF, Supreme Court Judges & Army Generals,” Kanu said.

He added, “Dear South: Just walk away from Nigeria. Simple!”

However, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and other leaders of the party in the southwest have backed the southern governors’ decision to ban open grazing in their region.

In addition, they urged the “Federal Government to provide, through the CBN, short, medium and long term financing for states and those who may wish to set up ranches as part of the agricultural sustainability policy.”

The APC leaders in the southwest met on Sunday and urged the “Federal Government to provide, through the CBN, short, medium and long term financing for states and those who may wish to set up ranches as part of the agricultural sustainability policy.”
