The Accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris has recanted his words, noting that the federal government is yet to return the Ibori loot to the Delta State government.

The Accountant General backtracked in a statement from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) on Wednesday signed by the Director (Information, Press and Public Relations), Henshaw Ogubike.

This comes few hours after it had been reported that Idris claimed that the federal government has returned the £4.2 million Ibori loot repatriated from the United Kingdom to the Delta state government.

He stated this on Tuesday while addressing the Abuja House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 to 2020 by Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for Effective Efficient Management and Utilisation.

Idris said the decision was in line with the laid down procedure as funds looted from a state are usually returned to the state.

However, the Delta state government has denied reports that the £4.2 million recovered from former Gov. James Ibori has been returned to the state after which the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) issued a statement on Wednesday.

The statement reads: “The money is still being awaited after which the issues around it will be resolved before further action is taken. For now, no money has been returned to Delta State”.

“The issue of the £4.2million Ibori loot has not been properly resolved.”

“The AGF was only making general comments about recoveries relating to State Governments,” the statement noted.
