President Muhammadu Buhari has denied ordering the expulsion of Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State and chairman of the APC’s Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee.

He denied allegations that he had authorized the nomination of Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello.

According to reports, Buhari has approved Buni to oversee the APC convention on March 26th, with the caveat that no more postponements will be accepted.

Buhari made the decision in London, according to reports, after meeting with his closest loyalists, including Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

According to sources, Buhari also denied rumors and claims that he endorsed Senator Adamu Abdullahi, the former governor of Nasarawa State, for the party’s chairmanship.

He is said to have declared that he had no favorite candidate for the chairperson, leaving the contest wide open.

According to an APC official who talked to Newsmen, Buhari made it plain that he had not backed anyone as the party’s chairman.

“Buhari stated that he was not endorsing any chairmanship candidate and that anyone was welcome to run.
All of these issues have worn the President down. He feels that everyone who wants to run for office should feel free to do so, and that they should put their popularity to the test on the campaign trail to see whether it would bring harmony to the APC,” the person added.

“The President also ordered Buni to return to his position as chairman as soon as possible, stating that he would no longer tolerate any excuses.” The March 26 convention date, he declared, “remains sacred.”

Remember that Governor Sani-Bello took over the leadership of the APC last Monday in what appeared to be an internal coup, dismissing allegations that Mai Mala Buni formally handed over to him before leaving for a medical vacation to Dubai.

In an interview, Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai said that Buni will not be re-elected as party chairman, accusing the Yobe governor of plotting to derail the next APC convention.
