Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading sociopolitical organization of the Igbo people, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to think about releasing and meeting with Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, advised Buhari to view the proposal in line with Kanu’s letter, which asked the president for a political solution.

You may recall that Kanu recently begged Buhari to unconditionally free him from custody and drop all allegations against him.

The IPOB leader has been jailed in the Department of State Services’ (DSS) custody since his re-arrest in June of last year. Isiguzoro claimed that Buhari’s meeting with Kanu following the release would put a stop to the sit-at-home order that was negatively harming the economy.

“Now that Nnamdi Kanu is the one writing Buhari himself seeking a political solution, I think the federal government, as a matter of national interest and security, should cash in on this opportunity and dialogue with Biafran agitators,” he added.

He went on to say that if the federal government believes it to be in the best interests of the country as a whole, they should first pardon all those who are willing to engage in discussion, including Yoruba and Northern agitators as well as those who choose to take up guns against the government.

The secretary-general of the Ohanaeze emphasized that the Federal Government should fulfill his lawyers’ plea and end his lawsuit.

He claimed that the action would provide the government access to two essential components that would aid in stopping further sit-ins that have paralyzed the economic activity in the old Eastern region, which consists of eleven states.
