The Enugu Police and the Distress Response Squad set up by Gov. Peter Mbah, successfully neutralized three male armed robbery suspects in the bustling 2nd Avenue of Independence Layout. The encounter unfolded in a fierce gun battle, ultimately leading to the recovery of two locally-made revolver pistols, six live rounds of 9mm ammunition, and the gang’s operational tricycle (Keke Napep).
The recovered items, however, extended beyond weaponry, shedding light on the gang’s modus operandi. Among the confiscated objects were suspiciously enchanted items believed to be charms. This revelation further intensified the seriousness of their criminal activities.
Unraveling a spree of targeted attacks on POS operators and unsuspecting customers, the criminals had amassed not only a substantial sum of approximately N500,000.00 but also rolls of POS transaction printing papers, assorted mobile phones, wallets, and bags.
Taking drastic measures to evade capture, the brazen criminals unleashed a volley of bullets when they spotted the approaching security operatives. However, the relentless response from the police and DRS proved swift and effective, resulting in the neutralization of the three culprits. It was during this altercation that the recovered exhibits were secured, offering crucial evidence for ongoing investigations.
