Ganduje Prays For A Peaceful Transfer Of Power

Ganduje, the state’s commissioner for information and internal affairs, has reportedly requested clerics to lead special prayers for a peaceful and orderly transfer of power to the incoming government in the state, according to a statement issued on Friday by Muhammad Garba.

The governor also expressed his gratitude to the state’s residents for their support of his government, which made it possible to carry out excellent development initiatives. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the laws that ensure peace in the state through ardent prayers.

Recall that Nasiru Gawuna, a candidate for the All Progressives Congress, lost the Kano State election to Alhaji Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People Party. On Monday, Yusuf will be sworn in as the new governor.

On Wednesday, Ganduje presented the 2023 transition report to Yusuf during a brief meeting at the Kano Government House, Ante Chamber Hall. Ganduje, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, reiterated his readiness to ensure a seamless transition of power.

Ganduje urged the incoming administration to carefully study the transition report and provide feedback on any areas that need improvement. Social media users have reacted to a reported audio recording of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Ibrahim Masari, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential placeholder candidate, speaking.

The two politicians spoke about a meeting between Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential candidate, and President-elect Bola Tinubu in the audio.

According to reports, Tinubu and Kwankwaso spoke for four hours last week in France about a variety of topics, including Kwankwaso’s potential inclusion in the future government.

Ganduje: To tell him what? I can’t do anything since Kwankwaso has become an alternative to us. There is no problem.

Masari: It hasn’t reached that stage. That’s impossible

Ganduje: Because we don’t have government?

Masari: Are you coming on Thursday?

Ganduje: It’s because of him that we lose reelection.

He said, “What have I done again?” He started explaining it to me that it was SLS and Chagaury that led them and so on.. I asked him whether he had spoken to you, and he said no. Is he seeing these things. Leave it until you come, you know this conversation on the phone is unsafe.

Ibrahim Masari, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential placeholder candidate, expressed displeasure with Bola Tinubu’s conduct of his recent meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Masari questioned why Tinubu had not informed Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, about his meeting with the NNPP presidential candidate in France.

News organizations had already reported on Tinubu and Kwankwaso’s Monday encounter in France.

Masari was overheard instructing Ganduje to meet one-on-one with the president-elect in an allegedly leaked recording.

After meeting Kwankwaso, Ganduje kept complaining that Tinubu had deserted him.

The former placeholder VP candidate said Tinubu was sending the wrong signal that would prevent people from trusting him.

“I spoke with Mr President earlier and I lamented to him about the issue. He (Tinubu) told me that it was SLS (Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) that arranged the meeting through one Chagoury. And I asked whether you were informed before the meeting, he (Tinubu) said no. I will adequately brief you when we meet, you know phone calls are not safe. Just keep exhibiting your maturity by keeping mum,” Masari said.

Masari agreed, but swiftly added that it was not within the jurisdiction of Tinubu to scuttle the election case after Ganduje said he had received a security information that the meeting was a part of a plot to have the Kano state APC governorship case dismissed at the election petition tribunal.

“But your Excellency I’m pleading with you to be calm until you come around. Let’s not discuss this issue on the phone. You know how unsafe our conversation could be. Anytime you come around, we will have our usual meeting and present our resolutions to him, if need be,” Masari added.

Then, when Ganduje enquired as to when Tinubu would return to the nation, Masari replied that he did not have any specific information because, previously, when they had spoken, Tinubu had conveyed his fury and displeasure to the president-elect.

On his arrival back in the nation, Tinubu is anticipated to meet with the governor of Kano State.

All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Kano are raising questions about a secret meeting between President-elect Bola Tinubu and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The possibility of Kwankwaso serving in the incoming administration was one of the subjects covered during their four-hour discussion in France, according to prior news reports.

This platform indicated that Kwankwaso shouldn’t have any positions in the new administration, not even as a messenger, according to Abdulmajid Kwamanda, the leader of the APC in Kano.

According to Daily Trust, the outrage was exacerbated by an allegedly leaked phone tape between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Ibrahim Masari, a former APC vice presidential candidate.

The governor was overheard complaining about unfair treatment during the president-elect’s meeting with Kwankwaso during the phone call. Ganduje said, “Now he (Tinubu) is seeing Kwankwaso as an alternative to us?”

In the recording, Masari, a supporter of Tinubu, tries to pacify the governor by requesting that he wait until he meets with Tinubu and offering words of calmness.

Late on Friday, Governor Ganduje departed Kano for Abuja. He is scheduled to meet with Masari this weekend before seeing President-elect Tinubu.

The dethronement of Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano will be brought up again under the new administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf in Kano State, according to Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s presidential candidate for 2023.

Ganduje Pardons 12 Death Row Prisoners

Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has released and pardoned 12 death row convicts, some of whom have been on death row for 25 years.

This came as Governor Ganduje remitted the death sentences of six convicts to life in prison.
This was said in a statement signed by SC Musbahu Lawan K/ Nassarawa Kano Command Public Relations Officer, a copy of which was made available to journalists on Tuesday in Kano.

According to him, the Governor also pardoned four female inmates serving long terms for good behaviour and hard work, as recommended by the Prisons Authority.

The Governor also provided N5000 in transportation to each of the released inmates so that they could rejoin with their family.

He disclosed that some of the pardoned inmates have spent 25 years awaiting execution.

Earlier, the Chairman of the prerogative of Mercy, Abdullahi Garba Rano thanked Ganduje for using the power conferred on him by the Constitution to released the inmates with good behavior at the recommendation of the Advisory council of prerogative of Mercy.
The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Sulaiman Mohd Inuwa commended the Governor for decongesting the custodial Center.

He then called on the released inmates to be good ambassador of the Nigerian Correctional Service to the society and to stay away from any act that can lead them back to the crime.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party and the Peoples Democratic Party support the Central Bank of Nigeria’s currency redesign strategy.

According to a statement from his chief press secretary, Abba Anwar, the governor made the comment on Monday at the Open Theatre, Government House, to kick off the distribution of palliatives to ameliorate the hardships brought on by the lack of naira notes.

Ganduje then disclosed that the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had promised Nigerians that he would end the current hardships caused by the CBN, if elected.
On the palliatives distribution, the governor said the state government was distributing the items in order to cushion the effects of the hardships caused to deliberately disturb the wellbeing of Nigerians.

“We didn’t invite this situation, neither did we pray for it. And therefore, we don’t welcome it at all. We gave similar palliatives during the COVID-19 days.

“And today our citizens are being faced with COVID-23 caused by the CBN. We earlier thought it was a simple disease, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a very serious virus going viral,” he lamented.
He further stated that, “…the virus coming from the CBN has affected all our commercial banks, our POS, our ATMs […] and all other things associated with this. Being the most populous state in the country, we are most affected by this unfortunate development.”

The governor said beneficiaries of the palliatives would come from all the 44 local government areas of the state.

“Today’s event is just to launch the distribution. It will continue from today, as we continue providing free buses for our people, just to cushion the effects of the CBN’s virus, COVID-23,” he added.

Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna State, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari on the naira redesign programme, claiming that the old notes are still legal cash in the state.
Buhari proclaimed that outdated 500 and 1000 naira notes were no longer valid in a national broadcast on Thursday.
He had instructed Nigerians to transport them to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other designated locations.
In response to Buhari, El-Rufai stated in a statewide address on Thursday night that the notes are still legal tender until the Supreme Court of Nigeria rules otherwise.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all old and new notes will continue to be used as legal cash in Kaduna State until the Supreme Court of Nigeria rules otherwise,” El-Rufai said.

“I therefore appeal to all residents of Kaduna State to continue to use the old and new notes side by side without any fear. The Kaduna State Government and its agencies shall seal any facility that refuses to accept the old notes as legal tender and prosecute the owners.”
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, said Buhari’s insistence on phasing out old naira notes in spite of a Supreme Court ruling shows lawlessness.

The speaker said though the president’s directive was a step in the right direction, the federal government could not afford situations that “suggest disregard for the rule of law”.
He flayed the decision of the federal government for maintaining silence on the Supreme Court order on currency swap.

The Supreme Court had earlier given an order for the old N1,000, N500 and N200 notes to remain legal tender, pending the determination of a case brought before it by some state governors.
The Supreme Court on February 15 also reiterated its order and adjourned the matter to February 22.
However, Buhari, in a nationwide broadcast on February 16, said he had instructed CBN to reintroduce the old N200 note until April 10, while the old N1,000 and N500 had stopped being legal tender.
