Concerns have been expressed by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) on the sudden dismissal of Reverend Yakubu Pam from the Nigeria Christian Pilgrimage Commission (NCPC) as Executive Secretary.
The forum’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, released a statement in which NEF highlighted concerns on the absence of due process and transparency in Reverend Pam’s departure.
After three years of devoted service as Executive Secretary, Reverend Pam was removed from his position without following the correct procedure, as the NEF pointed out.

The statement stated, “NEF is particularly alarmed by the lack of transparency and accountability in this decision, as Reverend Pam was not allowed to complete his tenure.
“The manner in which Reverend Pam was treated by his replacement is also troubling. Reports suggest that his belongings were callously thrown out of the office, causing him humiliation and disrespect.
“NEF condemns this behavior and demands that Reverend Pam be treated with the dignity and respect he deserves.
“NEF questions the decision to appoint someone from Lagos to replace Reverend Pam, the only top position given to the Northern Christian community. This raises concerns about the representation of Northern Christians in key leadership positions within the government.”
In order to fulfil Reverend Pam’s statutory four-year term, the forum pushed for his reinstatement and demanded a reconsideration of the decision to remove him.

Furthermore, NEF insisted on a comprehensive inquiry into the events leading up to Reverend Pam’s dismissal in order to guarantee openness and responsibility in NCPC leadership.
In order to foster fairness and harmony among Nigeria’s many ethnic and religious groups, the conference called on the Federal Government to give the appointment of qualified people from the Northern Christian community top priority. It also underlined the necessity of fair and just procedures in all government appointments.
NEF reaffirmed its dedication to promoting equality and togetherness among all Nigerians, stressing the significance of defending and upholding individuals’ rights and interests regardless of their origins.
