Crisis brews in Nnewichi as Obiofia community mandates Okpuno youths to Provide the killer of Tochukwu Izuchukwu

Mr Tochukwu Izuchukwu who lost his life while separating a fight between two masquerades during the recently concluded 2018 Afia-Olu Nnewi festival may have been buried, however, the agony and pains of the family and the entire Obiofia community especially the youths appears not to have subsided.

Tochukwu Izuchukwu, a native of Umuogbo in Obiofia, Nnewichi in Nnewi was murdered on the 24th of August during the New Yam festival called Afia-Olu Nnewi Festival. Tochukwu was allegedly stabbed to death with a bottle by one Mr Izunna Anosike from Okpuno Nnewichi.

Speaking to Anaedo Online during the burial of Mr Tochukwu Izuchukwu, Mr Onyekachukwu Echendu one of the community Youth leaders in Obiofia Nnewichi expressed his displeasure over the incident that took place. Mr Echendu who was visibly angry said that Obiofia Youths are not happy on how one of their brothers died in the knowledge that a similar incident took place two months before the death of Tochukwu Izuchukwu. He said “The Obiofia community especially the youths are not happy over the death of our brother, this was an avoidable incident if the spirit of brotherhood was demonstrated”. Furthermore, Echendu said ” Speaking on behalf of Obiofia Youths, we are calling our brothers in Okpuno Community to provide the killer of Tochukwu Izuchukwu.”
When asked if the alleged plan to was true he said ” We leave everything in the hands of Almighty God, He will give us Justice”

Another Youth leader in the community Mr Jude Anaejemba said that it was very unfortunate that a festival meant to celebrated turned into a bloodbath. He also urged the police to improve on their efforts at arresting the culprit.

While we await the result of the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria police in Awka, youths of both communities have been urged to allow the law to take its full course.
