The Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) Adamawa section claims that corruption is the main barrier impeding the legal profession’s ability to practise in Nigeria.
Mr. Jibril Jimeta, the chairman of the organising committee for the branch’s just finished Law Week, made this announcement on Monday during a press conference in Yola.
“Corruption in the legal profession is now in full scale as some of our members serve as the conduit for exchange of money between the judges and litigants.
“We are not measured by our success but by the number of us who proved to be deviants,” he said.
He stated that the legal profession was in disarray as a result of behaviours that were detrimental to the profession and violations of professional conduct norms.
“Giving clients false hopes on the true fate of their cases while some lawyers approach judges for bribes among other things were some of the bane in legal practice today,” he added.
